The fact that I am board certified means that I have:
1. Graduated from an accredited Medical School with an MD degree.
University of New Mexico School of Medicine,
Class of 1977
2. Completed an approved psychiatric residency training program.
University of Pittsburgh,
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinics
December 1981
3. Passed the examination by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
This examination consists of two parts.
The first part is a written examination covering the science of psychiatry.
The second part involves interviewing a patient in front of a panel of examiners, presenting your findings and understanding of the patient’s problems, and then being questioned by that panel.
In addition to this Board Certification, I am required to participate in continuing medical education (CME) in order to maintain my California medical license.
California’s current requirement is 25 units of CME per year. Over the past ten years, I have averaged more than 140 CME units per year.
